Gemini Spark: Google's always-on agent, plan requirements, skills and custom MCP apps

Gemini Spark is Google's always-on personal agent inside the Gemini app, announced May 19, 2026. It runs tasks in Google's cloud, not on your device, across Connected Apps including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Keep and Tasks, plus third parties like Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable and Zillow Rentals. Work reaches it as a one-off task, a schedule, or a monitor watching a Gmail filter or a topic across news, finance, sports, local events and more. Google's help center still calls it "an experimental feature in early development".

#Which plan and country do you need?

Spark needs Google AI Pro, $19.99 a month in the US, or Ultra at $99.99 for 5x Pro's usage limits or $199.99 for 20x. There is no free access, and Google AI Plus does not include it. You also need a personal Google Account, not a work or school one, and must be 18 or over with Keep Activity on. It works wherever Gemini Apps are supported except the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and only in the Gemini app on mobile, Mac and the web. It began as a US Ultra beta; on July 30, 2026 Google opened it to Pro subscribers in over 160 more countries.

#How do skills and custom MCP apps work?

The Skills page offers four routes: Create with Gemini, editing a prefilled template, a blank template via Create manually, or uploading a SKILL.md or a .zip with SKILL.md at its root. You can also ask for one inside a Spark task. Names are lowercase words separated by a hyphen, files must be plain text totalling no more than 100 MB, and scripts cannot perform actions or requests on external websites. Custom apps sit under Settings > Connected Apps > Custom apps, need you to be 18 or over and in the US, are English only, and connect first on the web. #What will Spark not do for you?

Gemini asks for review and confirmation before sending communications, modifying your data, making purchases and submitting web forms. In Chrome auto browse, where Spark uses your logged-in accounts, you personally finalize financial transactions, accept terms of service and create accounts. That surface is US only and capped at 20 requests a day on Pro and 200 on Ultra. Spark itself runs at most 15 tasks at a time and allows 50 active schedules.
