> OpenClaw shipped v2026.10.7 on 24 October 2026 and GitHub marks it Latest, but the project's own docs index still lists 2026.10.6 as the newest.

OpenClaw published v2026.10.7 on 24 October 2026, and it is the release the GitHub releases page now marks **Latest**, so `openclaw update` on the stable channel is what takes you to it. It is a recovery and durability release rather than a feature one, with one exception: the only entry under Changes is Gemini 4 Argon support. The part worth checking before you run the command is not in this release at all, it is in the one before it. v2026.10.6 raised the minimum Node version, and OpenClaw's own documentation index has not caught up to either release.

## What is actually in v2026.10.7?

Repair work, across most of the places an agent keeps state. The highlights group into session recovery, update safety, database and worker isolation, backup and durability, operator control, provider and plugin loading, managed integrations, and app-managed upgrades. The theme running through all of them is that an interruption should not cost you the thing that was in progress.

Two are worth naming directly. On sessions: "Replay-safe session recovery: interrupted sessions now retain recovery provenance and unfinished tool outcomes". On memory: "Memory Wiki re-imports preserve human-authored notes." If you have ever re-imported a wiki and found your own notes replaced by generated ones, that second line is the one to read.

The single Changes entry is a model addition: "Google models: add Gemini 4 Argon support."

The four fixes are small and specific. One stops the updater giving "irrelevant database-repair advice when a package manager is missing". One lets "fresh profiles to start the Gateway and complete automatic setup" on macOS. One stops a deleted or stale temporary log directory wedging the Gateway, which previously pegged it at full CPU across a date rollover. The last clears "slash-steer chips after the queued command is consumed" in the Control UI.

The release page's contribution record reads "49 in-range PRs + 21 retained seed-only PRs = 70 unique PRs", which is a smaller release than 2026.10.2 and consistent with a maintenance pass rather than a feature drop. The notes declare no breaking change and name no CVE.

## Why do OpenClaw's own pages disagree about which release is latest?

Because the badge and the handwritten pages are not updated together, and on 25 October 2026 they do not match.

The GitHub releases page puts the **Latest** badge on "openclaw 2026.10.7", shown as released at "24 Oct 09:53". The documentation release notes index at `https://docs.openclaw.ai/releases` tells a different story: its newest entry is **v2026.10.6**, which it marks as the latest, and it lists no entry for 2026.10.7 at all. The per-version documentation page the other releases have, at `https://docs.openclaw.ai/releases/2026.10.7`, returned HTTP 404 when we checked. The 2026.9.34 release page, published later the same day, also refers to 2026.10.6 as the latest version.

So two of the project's own pages say 2026.10.6 and one badge says 2026.10.7. The GitHub release entry for 2026.10.7 exists, carries full notes and is dated, which is why this article treats it as real and current; the documentation index looks like it is simply behind. The practical consequence is narrow but worth knowing: if you check your version against the documentation index you will conclude you are current on 2026.10.6, and `openclaw update` will disagree with you.

## Does the Node floor from 2026.10.6 still gate the upgrade?

Yes, and this is the one thing to check before you upgrade. v2026.10.7 states no runtime requirement of its own, but a requirement introduced in the previous release does not lapse because the next release does not repeat it.

The v2026.10.6 notes say that "OpenClaw now requires Node 24.22.1+ on the 24 line or 26.12.1+ on the 26 line", versions "which reject TLS chains signed with the compromised certificate keys addressed in the October 2026 Node.js security releases". The same notes say that "`openclaw update` refuses with recovery guidance before installing on an older Node".

There is a wrinkle here, and it is a disagreement between two of the vendor's pages rather than a settled fact. The `openclaw update` reference does not restate the floor, and where it does describe Node checks it describes them as weaker: "The Node engine comparison is informational (`ok` or `warn`) and cannot refuse admission" for candidate admission, while a package-target dry run reports "Would refuse update when no usable runtime is available". Those may well be different gates at different stages. This article follows the 2026.10.6 release notes on the version-specific claim, because a release's own notes are where a requirement introduced by that release is published, and the reference page is written to describe the command in general. Either way, the safe reading is the same: upgrade Node first if you are below the floor.

If an upgrade has already stalled on you, our [troubleshooting guide](/docs/troubleshooting) covers a Gateway that does not come back, and the [migration guide](/docs/migration-guide) covers version moves that change configuration.

## What is the 2026.9.34 release that landed after 2026.10.7?

The extended-stable line, which is a parallel track rather than a newer version. It is the entry most likely to confuse anyone scanning the releases page, because its timestamp of "24 Oct 11:38" is later than 2026.10.7's "24 Oct 09:53" while its version number is a whole minor line behind.

Its own notes explain it: "This is a gateway-only extended-stable release, which is our current equivalent to LTS." The page describes it as combining OpenClaw from the end of September 2026 with critical security updates and reliability fixes for that older release line, and references a backport audit. Its named highlight is that "`apply_patch` now validates an ordered envelope before mutating the workspace". It carries no Latest badge.

Extended-stable is a documented channel, not an accident. The update reference lists the channels as "stable/extended-stable/beta/dev" and notes that "Extended-stable is package-only."

## Which version should you be running?

On the stable channel, 2026.10.7. The table is the state of the releases page on 25 October 2026, and the dates do not sort the way the version numbers do.

| Release | Date on the releases page | Status there | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| openclaw 2026.10.7 | 24 Oct 09:53 | Marked **Latest** | The current stable release, and the subject of this article |
| openclaw 2026.9.34 | 24 Oct 11:38 | No badge | The extended-stable (LTS equivalent) line, published later the same day |
| openclaw 2026.10.6 | 22 Oct 12:53 | No badge | Raised the Node floor; still the newest entry on the docs index |
| openclaw 2026.10.10-beta.3 | 21 Oct 07:00 | Marked pre-release | The beta line, numbered ahead of stable |

The trap on this page is the same one it has had all month. The beta line is numbered ahead of stable, so 2026.10.10-beta.3 carries the highest number of the four and is a pre-release. The extended-stable line carries the lowest number and the newest timestamp. Neither means stable has fallen behind, and `openclaw update` targets your channel rather than the newest tag on the page.

Switching channels is a documented flag rather than something to do by accident:

```bash
openclaw update --channel extended-stable
```

## What should you do this week?

Check your Node version, then check where OpenClaw thinks you are, then preview the update before taking it:

```bash
node --version
openclaw update status
openclaw update --dry-run
openclaw update
```

`openclaw update status` is documented to "inspect the current branch, version, and update availability", and `--dry-run` to "Preview planned actions (channel/tag/target/restart flow) without writing config". If your Node is below 24.22.1 on the 24 line or 26.12.1 on the 26 line, upgrade Node before the last command rather than after it.

If an update stalls or rolls back, the documented recovery is a repair run rather than a retry. The update reference groups it as "Triage after a failed update, `update repair`, and `update cleanup`."

```bash
openclaw update repair
```

Nothing in 2026.10.7 is urgent in the way a credential leak is urgent. It declares no CVE and no breaking change, and its value is that interruptions cost less than they did. The item with a deadline attached is the Node floor from the release before it, because that is the one that will stop an upgrade rather than merely disappoint it. For the platform's current verified facts, the [OpenClaw hub](/ai-agents/openclaw) is where we keep them, and [security hardening](/docs/security-hardening) covers what an OpenClaw install can reach.

## What we could not confirm

OpenClaw's documentation release index does not list v2026.10.7, and the per-version page it would sit at, `https://docs.openclaw.ai/releases/2026.10.7`, returned HTTP 404 when we checked. We looked at the index itself rather than only guessing the URL, so this is a statement about those two pages on 25 October 2026 and not a claim about every page OpenClaw publishes. The release may be documented somewhere we did not find, and the index may catch up within days.

The release page shows a publication time of 09:53 with no year and no time zone, which is why this article gives the date and not the hour.

We did not install this release. Nothing here reports behaviour observed on a machine: the quoted lines come from the release notes and the commands from OpenClaw's update documentation.

## Frequently asked questions

**What changed in OpenClaw v2026.10.7?**

It is a recovery and durability release rather than a feature one. The highlights cover interrupted session recovery, safer update activation, backup and state durability, worker and database isolation, and operator control, and the only entry under Changes is Google model support: add Gemini 4 Argon support. Four fixes cover update guidance, macOS onboarding, Gateway logging and the Control UI queue.

**Is v2026.10.7 or v2026.10.6 the latest OpenClaw release?**

OpenClaw's own pages disagree. The GitHub releases page puts the Latest badge on openclaw 2026.10.7, released 24 October 2026. The documentation release index at docs.openclaw.ai/releases lists v2026.10.6 as its newest entry and marks it latest, and it has no page for 2026.10.7. On version numbers and release order the GitHub releases page is the one that is current.

**Does OpenClaw v2026.10.7 need a newer Node version?**

v2026.10.7 states no runtime requirement of its own, but the release before it does, and you pass through it. The v2026.10.6 notes say OpenClaw now requires Node 24.22.1+ on the 24 line or 26.12.1+ on the 26 line, and that openclaw update refuses with recovery guidance before installing on an older Node. Check your Node version before upgrading from 2026.10.5 or earlier.

**What is the openclaw 2026.9.34 release published after 2026.10.7?**

It is the extended-stable line, not a newer release. Its own notes call it a gateway-only extended-stable release, which is our current equivalent to LTS, combining OpenClaw from the end of September 2026 with security and reliability fixes. It was published at 11:38 on 24 October, after 2026.10.7 at 09:53, and it carries no Latest badge.

**How do you upgrade to OpenClaw v2026.10.7?**

Run openclaw update, which the docs describe as updating OpenClaw and switching between stable, extended-stable, beta and dev channels. Use openclaw update status first to inspect the current branch, version and update availability, and openclaw update --dry-run to preview the planned actions before anything is written.
